Mohair SA unveils new collection |
|
Mohair’s ‘new look’ draws inspiration from unique Karoo scenery. South Africa, the official leader of the internationally renowned mohair industry, recently announced an initiative to work with local mohair manufacturers to give the coveted textile a ‘new look.’
Working alongside the Josef Greeff of JA Greeff Designs, participants will acquire new skills and develop their design capacity, with the vision of introducing new products to their ranges. The project is designed to lay the groundwork for a transferring of skills from Greeff - who is a seasoned design guru - to the resilient manufactures who export 90% of their products.
In designing his latest ‘new look’ products (ranging from mohair light fittings to the Karoo toile), Greeff drew inspiration from the picturesque Karoo landscape. The distinctive succulent plant life of the region, with its various shapes and forms, is at the heart of the collection.
The new signature range will feature the following distinct colours: Karoo morning mist with its chalky whites going into the greys; Karoo midday from the pale greens into the brighter green palette; Karoo sunset with various shades of orange; and Karoo “starry night charcoal and black with a hint of silver.
The range was first unveiled at the recently held International Mohair Summit that took place in Graff Reinet in November |
