Classing Mohair Correctly Adds Value

Farmers lose money if their mohair clip isn’t properly classed, and this is why the farmers must be present during shearing season.

Mohair trainer teachers farm workers how to inspect mohair for classing

The industry faces a huge challenge with a shortage of properly skilled mohair sorters!

Currently, Mohair South Africa and the Mohair Empowerment Trust are receiving many training requests from brokers and individual farmers for simple things like ‘out sorts’ (e.g., stains, lox, and seeds).

We have started addressing the skills shortage challenge and emphasising the mohair classing standards/ guidelines.

Workshops recently held:

DATE: 11 -12 July

Farm: Commandofontein in the Adelaide area.

Farmer: Mr Norman Emslie

15 Farm workers attended.

Thank you, Gary Willows, and Andre Manthe, for arranging this very important training session and for all that you did to make it happen.
