Natural Fibres Take Centre Stage at "Karoo Kraal"
Mohair South Africa was proud to be one of the sponsors of the “Karoo Kraal” exhibition at this year's Karoo Winter Wool Festival. Curated by Viviers and Hoven, the immersive exhibition explored the role of natural fibres, including wool and mohair, through art, design, interiors and craftsmanship.
At the heart of the exhibition was a central gathering space surrounded by four timber yurts, each showcasing thoughtfully curated collections by artists, designers and makers working with natural fibres. Together, the exhibition demonstrated the versatility of these fibres across contemporary design while highlighting the journey from raw fibre to finished product.
As part of our sponsorship, Mohair South Africa helped tell the story of South African mohair through raw fibre displays and industry branding, creating a tangible connection between the fibre in its natural state and the finished works showcased throughout the exhibition. Visitors were encouraged to experience the fibre firsthand and gain a greater appreciation for the quality and craftsmanship behind South African mohair.
Throughout the festival, the “Karoo Kraal” became a space for conversation and knowledge sharing. Guided walkabouts, panel discussions and artist talks brought together farmers, designers, makers, students and industry stakeholders to explore the relationship between agriculture, craftsmanship and design. These discussions offered visitors a deeper understanding of the collaboration required across the natural fibre value chain and the people behind the products.
Events such as the Karoo Winter Wool Festival provide valuable opportunities to showcase natural fibres in new and engaging ways while strengthening connections between agriculture, the creative industries and consumers.
