African Textile Talks 2025
African Textile Talks is a summit that brings together experts and practitioners from across the entire textile value chain from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Uganda, and Nigeria. This platform enables changemakers to share their stories and showcase the remarkable developments and innovations happening across the African continent.
At the recent Cape Town summit, Mohair South Africa participated in a panel discussion on responsible fibre management, ethical standards, and the global excellence of South Africa’s mohair value chain. The panel was moderated by Jackie May, with panellists including Pierre van der Vyver from House of Fibre, Lauren Moore from Mohair South Africa and Jonker Venter from OVK. Together, they explored what makes South Africa uniquely suited to mohair production, from the Karoo’s distinctive ecological context to innovations that have steadily improved fibre quality, as well as the growing emphasis on traceability, transparency, and regenerative farming.
Held under the theme 'Thread with Care', the summit reminded us that sustainable futures are shaped not only by fibre, but also by the people, places, and principles behind it.
